My dear parishioners of Holy Trinity,
My first words are of warm
congratulations to Fr. O’Sullivan
and to you all on this achievement.
And my thanks go out also to past
generations of priests and people
who, in many ways, have prepared
the ground for this success.
Newark holds a special place in
my memories. It has been served by
great priests such as Monsignor
Hadican, Canon Farmer and
Monsignor O’Dowd. At one time it
was a small but excellent community;
now it vies in size with
parishes in the big cities. And under
the leadership of energetic priests,
development has kept apace with
growth.
In particular, I applaud the building of your new schools. You know that
provision of schools has been one of my deepest concerns. So much that, given the
choice of church or school, I would choose the latter.
I wish to give my warmest congratulations and thanks to you, Fr. O’Sullivan, and
to your parishioners. And those thanks go out to your former parish priests and
parishioners.
+ Edward
