Fr Michael’s recent celebration of his Golden Jubilee of Ordination to the Priesthood may not have been the weekend that we had originally planned for within the Parish, but even under current circumstances, it was celebrated!
Fr. Michael expresses his warmest thanks to all who sent messages of celebration and appreciation; for the gifts received…and for the cake-s! (at last count, there were 3!!). He feels humbled at the lengths to which so many went to mark the day.
It meant much for Fr Michael and Fr Peter to be able to reach out to so many through the Mass of Thanksgiving, LiveStreamed. It was a joining of so many people, family, friends, priests and people of the Diocese near and far, across the miles and across continents!
A Papal Blessing was received from Pope Francis to mark the occasion. In his own message to Fr Michael, Bishop Patrick was warm in his appreciation for a ‘most generous service to the Diocese’; expressing a ‘thanksgiving that the Lord has brought you to this day’ and ‘gratitude for your faithful ministry’.
Fr Peter, regretting that Fr Michael’s family could not be here, spoke at the end of Mass: ”His ministry of 50 years is truly inspirational…I congratulate him on behalf of the parish and all those whose lives he has touched as well as my own.”
The time will come when we will be able to come together (physically) as a Parish and celebrate. In the meantime, to Fr Michael we say…Ad Multos Annos!
